It's pretty easy to do non destructive editing in CS4.

Same here.That's true, so perhaps I should clarify a bit. When I go into LR every single edit (no matter how many I make) do not affect the original image. I don't need layers or Smart Objects (which have until now at least) been limited as far as manipulation.
I just want to go in do what I need and get out.

My wife got an email from Adobe offering the upgrade for $199.In terms of upgrading just PS, the price is $350.
To upgrade the entire suite (from CS4 Design Premium) is $600.
