I thought this was pretty cool....you can see all the lights on there. Check out the difference between the states and the rest of the world. We're lit up like a Christmas Tree baby!

It couldn't have been around too long...it was taken from the space station. 😛 I said satellite in the original post because technically, the space station is a satellite. 😀
 
How is that possible though? Just because its dark in NY doesn't mean its dark in the rest of the world...

Ok, now check out xplanet. It takes an image like the one you posted (but of the whole planet) and another taken during the day, along with an hourly download of cloud cover and generates a 'real time' image of the planet from a certain vantage point. Very very cool.

This is old but very cool. I remember seeing debates over whether or not this was a real sattelite pic, or just a regular sattelite pic with the lights laid over it

either way it's sweet 🙂
 
Sweet. I just mapped it to a sphere, and it's rendering now. I'm gonna figure out how to make it a moving .gif and use it as my wallpaper or something 🙂
