From imdb.com:
Hollywood superstar Nicole Kidman has been signed to star in a new movie version of CS Lewis' classic children's novel The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe. Studio bosses at Disney - who are backing the project - were desperate for Kidman to play the White Witch, and her two kids with ex-husband Tom Cruise, Isabella, 11, and Connor, nine, convinced her to say yes. A Tinseltown source says, "Nicole's kids don't pay great attention to her career - she's just mom to them. But when she mentioned she had been asked to star in the movie they went wild. They even asked for jobs as extras." Kidman even made a secret visit to New Zealand last week to see locations and meet the crew. Walt Disney chairman Richard Cook recently said of the movie - which is due to start filming later this year - "It's a very, very ambitious project and one that we believe could be very important to the studio."

I'm one of those who really enjoyed the books as a 6-8 year old and then was irritated at the Christian subtext when I figured it out. Recently though I've begun to enjoy them again, as I read them to my own children. She likes Harry Potter WAY more though...

Wow, those books were some of my favourites as a kid! I can't wait for this!

But now I realize that after the sucess of the LOTR films, there will be many more movie series based on classic books. More so than usual I mean. I can almost see updated 1984 and Dune movies.

I loved those books when I was little... I don't care if they have a Christian or satanic or whatever subtext.

Did you mean the white queen from the x-men? Now that would have been cool!

I never heard of those books until about 10 years ago when I was playing a game that referenced them. None of my friends in Kansas City had heard of them either.

I just hope this series is much better than the DVD set that we picked up for my boy.

The set is from the BBC and it put us to sleep immediately.

The re-ordered the books later, putting The Magician's Nephew first despite the fact that it has spoilers in it for The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. They should have left it where it was in the series, it was written as a prequel.

I agree. I think LW&W > Magician's Nephew anyway, but that's my own opinion, and I haven't read them in ages.
