so i guess my band is #7 on purevolume's unsigned alternative chart right now. someone emailed me and pointed this out to me. i think that's pretty nifty. it's based on plays per day.

ATOT effect could make us #1, though. come on ATOT! 😀

or at least give me a cookie, i'm starving here.

YGPM and you're on the internet for christ's sake. I shouldn't have to mail payment. I like the other songs except they would be slightly better if I could understand wtf he was saying or at least guess.

Anyway, nice work. I used to do session work about 10 years ago, and I noticed your recordings all seem to have the common mistake many bands make- they drown out the singer with the music. The singer should be the lead person- the lyrics cause the music, not the other way around. Tell your engineer to turn up the fader on the vocal a bit 🙂

strong vocals should be louder... i dont find the music is too loud or drowning out the vocals at all, at least not when the music isnt thrashing.

the guitar's not bad.. vocals are ok in some songs but some songs it seems a bit off.

guitar AND vocals. you win some, you lose some, i guess. 😀 i had never sung before playing in this band and all these recordings are a year to 1.5 years old, so i'd like to think i'm a little better now.

We engineered them ourselves. they were just recorded in our practice space. We'd never recorded anything "for reals" before, so mistakes were bound to be made. I hear that the vocals sound too low from just about everyone I talk to, but I still disagree. I think what people are responding to is that, for the most part, the vocals have not been doubled or processed or anything like that, which, besides compression, are the most common "pump ups" for vocals that I hear in "pro" recordings. The more and closer I listen to other recordings out there, I'm finding that even records that I thought had really straight, clean vocals actually use a lot of doubling, delay, reverb, etc. So on our next, we'll be using some more of that ourselves, as well as better equipment. and hopefully better performances, too. 😉

and if you'll notice, i said it was ok for him to think it sucks. and actually he bought a CD after saying it sucked, so he can say whatever he damn well pleases, IMO, cause he supported the band anyway.

sparta shouldn't even be on this list, since last I heard they were signed to Geffen Records.
