Cool little free program for touchpad users

Supports Synaptics and ALPS touchpads under XP and 2000.

Elegant in its simplicity. When the software detects the touchpad is being used, it remaps some keys to be mouse functions. For example, while using the touchpad you can use F for left-click and D for right-click. Definitions are customizable.

The idea is that you can keep one hand on the keyboard and use that for some commands. I know for myself, using the touchpad to move the pointer a long distance is a pain. With this, you would have keys for left/right click, IE commands Previous/Next, close window, etc., and the nice thing is that you can do it with one hand staying in its regular typing position.

What's cool is that the key remapping happens on the fly - if you are using the touchpad, it remaps them, and when you stop, the keys revert.
