So the other day my wife wanted to swing by Goodwill because she needed a couple of extra bowls for Thanksgiving which is fine no big deal sometimes GW has some awesome finds.

So she goes off to find some bowls and I head over to the random isles of crap section. You know the one. Every GW has them but anyway while I was walking up and down the isles I spotted this beaty from a distance and just could not resist the temptation.

So now I need a good rum punch recipe for Thanksgiving so anybody got one? A tasty mixed drink concoction would work as well.

Behold the Rival BF-150 Drink Fountain.

Rum, lime, ginger beer.

Although if you fill that with dark and stormy it would be a messy night!

Can't help you with the cocktails cause I drink spirits neat(mostly), but I'll recommend Pussers rum. Tastes fantastic neat, but cheap enough to mix with coke or something else ridiculous, and not be appalling.

Thanks for the suggestion. I never thought of adding some carbonation to the mix but I like it!

Just fill it with rum?
Well this is Thanksgiving not a Christmas/New Years party so I don't want anything to high in alcohol content.

This is actually the trial run for our Christmas party which is a little bit more laid back. I don't know if I'll go straight rum but I will punch it up a couple of notches.

Pussers navy rum is a great choice!

Try it with a dash of lime and a spicy ginger beer (I'm never sure about what you guys class as ginger beer and ginger ale but you definitely want ginger beer for this).

Fine, throw in some pineapple slices. Circulate ethyl alcohol through the system for an hour first.

A local bar / restaurant I used to frequent closed down, property was worth more than the business. Houses stand there now. Behind the bar they kept a book of different drinks customers ordered over the years. When it closed someone grabbed the book and made a word doc of all the drinks. Maybe you can find something in it.

Alcohol is bad news; you shouldn't drink.

Cherry jello made with the juice of blood oranges should work well.

Diplomatico's too sweet. That's actually the rum that killed my interest in trying different rums. I realized there's virtually no standards in making rum, and it's a crapshoot as to what's in a new bottle. I've been using it to make hot buttered rum. With any luck, the bottle will be gone this season. Good riddance.

You could, you know, throw the crap away. This is going to be a shock for a lot of folks to read but there is no law or ethical mandate that prevents one from disposing of booze.

That would be wasteful. It's acceptable for something as heavily flavored as hot buttered rum, but when the bottle's gone, that'll free up space for Pussers, and that's good for just about anything you'd want to do with it.

My rules for rum.
Look for dark navy rum. And avoid any spiced rum unless you know that you like it. Spiced rum is just too sweet 90% of the time, and light rums don't really taste of much.

He is disposing of it. Just in small glasses over a period of time!

I went digging through my collection and found two potential candidates. These have been around for a couple of years so I'd rather use them up then go buy something.

Which one does everyone think would work better or is it a toss up?

I'm familiar with neither, but the light rum will just add alcohol with little taste. Depends on what you're gonna do with it. If you want regular ingredients that are alcoholized, use the light. If you want some flavor from the spirit, try the Myers neat first to make sure it complements your ingredients, and doesn't stomp all over the flavor.
