Look at all the multiples of 9. The icons for the corresponding numbers are the same. The formula given makes it such that your answer is a multiple of 9, thus leading you to a multiple of 9, allowing the "psychic" to guess correctly every time. After you do this, it will jumble itself around and choose a different icon for the multiples of 9.
