It certainly looks kick start only, but I read it had a custom battery box which is why I asked.

Nope, that's a DOHC Honda engine, 1979 was the first year for that engine and they were electric start only, they never had kick start on that motor...only the earlier SOHC engines had the kick starter. In fact, that looks like a 1979 CB750 frame and motor (I had one myself).

That's a pretty thin seat. How compact do those batteries get?
