Not hot enough to go run out right now and get it but the next time you stop by Staples to pick up a hot deal you can look for this thermal compound. Staples is clearing this out. It looks like Arctic Silver. This is nationwide - it rings up as $2.50 at the register.

Staples SKU = 482249

you'll have a hard time telling the difference between arctic silver iii and the antec stuff, i think. (there's not much difference between any of them)

personal experience? or what u've heard?

//krunk (^_^x)

hmm... this would make a useful filler on other hot deals for once instead of spending 2$ on paperclips or something...

has staples always sold AS3?

edit: nevermind... i though this was arctic silver 3, not antec silver... still be a good filler tho...

in fact it's personal experience, what i've read, and what i've heard. Though I should note my own tests are far from conclusive.

🙁 I think someone had the wrong information. I have gone to about 5 different Staples in PA, NJ and DE and none of them carry the stuff. They say they never had them. Are you sure this stuff is being sold from Staples, and not some other vendor?

Not the same. A quick look at Google for some reviews shows that III is better.
Yes. The difference is more than obvious to me since I tried it with SK-7 and then I used SLK-800 with artic silver III. The difference was - believe or not - about 5-6 C. Given that SLK-800 makes probably about 2C over SK-7 I gather that the only other change was in thermal paste. Thus 3-4 C difference. Unless I did poor installation before which I doubt.
I would not recommend this grease to anybody who wants to overclock, it is not equal to AS III, no way.

Yes, it was at Staples. Several of my local Staples have a small shelf area between the video cards and the locked RAM case where they have a little Antec section. They carry one model of case, a couple of heatsink/fans and a few other Antec items. The thermal compound must have been a slow seller so they put it on clearance. It was selling for $9.99. It could be that not all Staples stores carry the Antec line or the thermal compound. Unfortunately I don't have a SKU. If I find it I will post it.

I have the same result with my P4 Spark 7 with that antec silver i had 39c(cpu) and with artic silver III it got down to 33c big different !!! but of course for $2 again to $7 still good deal

I have used metallic automotive anti-seize compound . About $ 6 for 4 oz bottle ( you'll never run out ) at NAPA etc. ( Take a look here for some choices , some may be better - http://www.mscdirect.com/PDF/PDF02/2815.pdf ) I have no idea if it is up to AS3 but it works for me . Just remember that it is conductive so use sparingly and keep away from traces like you would wiht the conductive AS compunds .

Thermal Paste technology for the desktop computer market has reached a plateau because the bottlenecks are somewhere else in the cooling system. Right now there are not big differences between the ones in the market. Most of those reviews are based on subjective comments and/or uneducated observations (i.e. a 0.5 degree difference is not statistically significant when you are reading a temperaure of 50 degrees...). Do not believe everything that you see on the net or in forums. 😉
