I read it about it in the latest Time. It's a hybrid 4-cylinder/electric motor that runs off batteries. The batteries are charged by braking and the engine. At idle (when most emissions are produced) the engine actually shuts off. Then, when you start moving, the engine takes over from the electric motor. Coming out in '03.
