Cooking question for you chefs here

So I decided to go to my chinese grocery market today....they had a sale on chicken thighs. They had none left but the halal counter had a pack left. I asked the guy to get me 3 more packs of chicken thighs for a grand total of 16 chicken thighs. ...he goes in the back and grabs some more then runs around the back of the other side of the store to package it...thought that was a bit weird....eventually I get my big pack of chicken thighs, I proceed to go find some jerk marinade..i love jerk chicken.

I get home and I open the pack of chicken so I can marinade but I overwhelmed by a smell of sulfur or what rotten eggs would smell like. I tossed the whole thing in the garbage...was I too hasty?

Now I just spent 30 dollars on a pizza delivery 🙁

yeah I definitely stopped cooking it..but now the place smells like eggs..ugh!

I really wanted jerk chicken tonight..even had a pot of potatoes and vegetables ready to go with it...pizza it is.

You may want to alert your grocer. If not to get a refund then at least to let them know they are selling folks rotten chicken. Maybe that clerk needs retraining. As my professional chef friend says regarding food safety "how many people do you want to kill during your career?"

You bought several pounds of bad chicken and you didn't even consider taking it back and bitching?

FWIW, I've smelled plenty of stinky chicken in my day. I'm not as afraid of my food as most people today, so if it's just a little past fresh, I rinse it off well, cook it and eat it. But I've NEVER had chicken that smelled like sulfur, no matter how old it got.

normally I would of cooked up the whole batch, but I was cooking for me and my nephew and his girlfriend...i couldn't risk getting other people sick. i'm weird that way.

Oh man, you could have barely cooked it and served it to your nephew and his girlfriend. Problem solved. House for yourself again. At least for a few weeks.

I'm going to attempt this again right now. Why is there always one person that doesn't like spicy food? argh!

pretty much got the broiler thing going cranked with tinfoil over the meat..whatever works righ?t
