well...I made the first (could have been) costly mistake putting a system together today.

Was my personal system actually...

Was changing the mobo out (k7t pro2a to k7t turbo-raid) and I had everything set to go and I booted up, changed the multiplier, bumped up to 102 and restarted

Almost got to windows...and gave error. So I thought...maybe the processor wont do as much on this board...so I simply put the multiplier and fsb at default and ran from there just to see if it would get to windows.

Well it didnt...so now I'm wondering...I look into the system...and I notice I FORGOT TO PLUG IN THE CPU FAN!!!! (a 60mm delta on a hedgehog hs) and the system was going into the bios when I noticed this...so I went down to PC health and the cpu was running at 196 DEGREES!!

I instantly turned off the system...let it sit for a while and of course plugged the fan in and when it booted back up it was 127 is now running at 100 (delta doesnt take long to cool it) (will go back and turn up the multiplier later)

Ooops.

I'm EXTREMLY lucky this thing is even still running...considering that I had it going for almost a minute at a time before it gave me the error

Wow is all I can say...I'm normally extremly careful and make sure I cross all my t's and dot the i's .. Guess I wasnt today.

You're damned lucky not to be sitting on a dead CPU.

Consider this your lucky day.

you're right...because then I'd have to walk 10 feet into the other room and get me another one :p

but still...would have been 220 dollars down the drain either way

same thing happened here- except it was an ide cable or something that had stopped the fan- not sure how hot it got, didn't look to find out, just unplugged it, and quick. still running solid, though...
