Convince me to not lease this car: 2007 BMW 335i

Ok, I need some opinions here... is there a reason that I shouldn't lease this car? I know with leases you lose money if you keep the car for more than 3-4 years but here is my situation:

I'll be based in the U.S. for the next 2 years, but I'll keep travelling internationally 40-50% of the time. I looked over the lease options at bmwusa.com and I can get a 24 month lease with 10,000 miles annually. I don't think I'll drive any more than 6-7k miles a year, but 10K is good safety. And I know that once you buy a brand new car and drive it off the lot, it depreciates automatically. Is leasing a good option for me? I don't want to buy a car and hassle with selling it in 2 years...

Go for it.

One option of course would be to lease an Accord Coupe for half the payment...

Yeah but I don't really want to get an Accord here in the U.S. when I can get a BMW. Brand new BMWs are so much more expensive back in Europe, I doubt I can get one... here in the U.S. they are much cheaper (gas too!).

My friend has one, not a big fan... its nice car but nothing like a Bimmer.

If you are only going to drive it for 2 years, yes it would be better to lease the car. Also, you can haggle with them on the price just like you would a purchase. Be sure to check out this website:

your lease payments would probably be somewhere in the $800 area. Tack on full coverage insurance on that and your car payments would be around $900.

If you can afford this go for it!

Cars lose very little value just because you "drive it off the lot." It is true that the most depreciation happens at the beginning of the life of the car, but that's not a great reason to lease a car. Actually it's a terrible reason to lease a car, because what you're paying for when you lease a car IS the depreciation. A much better idea would be to buy a 1-2 year old used car.

But I'm guessing you didn't REALLY want anyone to convince you not to lease the car, so go ahead and lease it. ;)

Ah, there's the rub. ;)

It's possible to justify leasing a car financially, but those justifications assume you would be buying or leasing the SAME car. Most people lease a car that they could not afford to buy, in which case it is a terrible financial decision.

DVD-A 5.1 Surround
bt standard
real time traffic
phonebook transfer from cell
all wheel drive
one touch start up
286 hp
the absolute best navi out there

IMHO, it's much more bang for your buck.

335i has all of that bar the DVD-A (how useful is that anyway?) and AWD. Mind you, I could find NOTHING about AWD on the Acura site...

That's quite a bit to pay for a car you won't get to drive much. You'd be better off with a 325Ci for as little as you're actually going to be driving. Why waste your money on an expensive lease?

BTW... Neither 335i nor TL is AWD.. 335 is RWD, TL is FWD

Meh, I got a 97 volvo 960, for $450 total, had been sideswiped on one side. Drive like a dream, less than 100k miles.

Why would anyone spend more than a grand on a car?
