I have an X3i that I got last november. It's been great, wifi works wonderfully. And having an easily replaceable battery is good too, not that I have battery life problems at all.

Well besides most PDA's being worthless, only thing i can think of is that Windows Mobile 2003 is worse than using Windows 95 on a Dual G5 or something retarded like that. What do you need a PDA for? As a toy? It's too small and hard to input any info for it to be useful to make a spread sheet on the go, get a laptop for that. The screen is too small to be of any real use for checking a spreadsheet or whatever. And networking PDA's is a PITA and not worth it since you can only see like 1/30th of most normal websites and spend a n hour and a half scrolling through the words like 5 at a time. If you need it to carry files, get a USB 64meg stick.

Edit: this is all from experience, i have some Sony $700 Palm, two HP $300 Win 2003 peice of craps and a Palm Tungsten $350 paperweight (i didn't have to pay for any of them) And there all collecting dust in the corner. Unless i had a job where i was required to have one there pretty much paperweights.

I'd buy it, make sure to order the Dell Axim X30 high for $296 with free shipping.

See Hot Deals forum.

Difficult to pack more features into a PDA (Bluetooth in addition to integrated 802.11b is quite nice to have) - certainly most not near the low price of the Dell. Only premium feature missing at first glance is a CF slot; if that is not important (as it has an SD slot), would say it is worth getting.

Edit: in regards to the usefulness of a PDA, it depends a great deal on what one does. If one's employment/educational schedule is fairly benign, it is overkill. Personally, as I got older, I found it a necessity. I have thousands of contacts and 20 to 30 appointments per business week to keep track of, let alone the task deployment as a subsection under the calendaring. The ability to Sync up to one's calendar/contacts is vital. The PDA is incredibly useful for making quick notes or beginning/composing correspondence to later make use of on one's machine - which makes it quite effective and a bit superior to a notebook (have several PDAs and notebooks, and am much more apt to pull out the PDA for size and instant-on convenience) if one commutes any distance at all regularly. Also find it extremely effective for tracking billable hours.

Its a great PDA. I have mine hooked up wirelessly to my LAN so that I can stream MP3s to it. Also good for videos, emulators, wireless web browsing, and maybe some work stuff too. :)

for being a pda user for about 3 years. this is my experience. I don't really bring my pda with me most of the time, but most of the time, I wish I have it. it is my address book. I keep all the contact in there. sometimes, you just don't want to put everyone phone # on your cellphone, so I got pda to take care of that.

it is VERY good for quick note. you can't beat it. I prefer to take quick note like write down a number on the pda than pencil and paper.

the pda is handy as a voice recorder. I can record for 5 hours+

I put bible in that also....it is good too

even when I don't bring it with me as often, but there are times I wish I have it. it is worth it, imo.

I got over the stage of gaming on pda. :D

I love my X30 :) I play Simcity 2000, Worms World Party, Age of Empires, etc. on it :) NES emulation = completely badass, as is the GBA emulation.

Plus, the Wifi is awesome. I chat on AIM during classes :)

The bluetooth/IR is perfect for sending files to/from my cell phone.

The calendar is invaluable for keeping track of assignments and setting reminders.

I have a 512MB card w/ 2 full length divx movies on it for when I travel.

The MP3 player is awesome, just make sure to turn off the backlight :)

Oh yeah, chicks dig it :p

Wait for the VGA displays to come out, soon & the version of Windoz on PPC's still sucks, clicking on the x doesn't close the app yet, also, I believe it's 802.11b, not g.

I just bought a notebook instead, much more useful for my purposes, like balancing my checkbook while watching the kid play soccer tonight.

Tried using Pocket Money & really hosed my data a couple of times:(.

Well I already got a POS laptop and the PDA costs me less than $300. Well, i got the confirmation email :) Ships on or before September 9th. A question though: can I get a price adjustment if a better deal comes along with the X30?

Are you sure you can check your ebay sales with that thing?

I've got an Axim X5 with PPC2002 and I can't surf for crap on it. Most pages don't appear and when they do, it takes about 1 min or more a page.

Dell's inventory/shipping estimates are rarely accurate.

It will most likely ship early or will be delayed.
