If I had a 70k+ job when I was your age I would keep it for a while.

At your age I would make the sacrafice and keep the high paying gig. You'll have time to relax later and actually be able to enjoy it more if you get a cusion built while in your 20's

what most of the babies (and I use this literally) on here don't realize is that there's more to life than income. Yes, you took a pay cut...but you're MUCH happier. And happiness is all that matters. 🙂

kind of hard to enjoy the fancy car and plasma tv when you're depressed 😉

You took a >$20 paycut to move from a sparsely populated area (read: low cost of living) to a city in California (read: through the roof cost of living)? And you're moving in with your parents? That's dumb.

it's definately not all about the money.. you get to live rent free in a city that you love and enjoy.. i think you made the right move, especially considering you were miserable at the other job

75k at 23?! Geebus that would be hard for me to pass up.

That's LA. Similar in income to what maids make everywhere else.
😉

Do whatever makes you happy as long as you can afford a roof over your head.

-edit- but the better decision is find a higher paying job you you love.

He moved TO LA to make less money. 75k was the boonies.

I have to say just this.

I was offered some great jobs at 20K more than what I make now, but I get tons more time off, comp time, completely paid benefits, and great retirement matching. Most of all, I love what I do and so I don't dread going in every day, and I can come home and enjoy my evenings and weekends. It's only been 2 years and my experience has gone above and beyond that of my coworkers at my previous position, plus working for a smaller company I have been given management and training opportunities I would not have had elsewhere. I would definately regret having taken the money over the enjoyment I have at my current position, plus the opportunities I have received that I would not have at my previous position.

If you are unhappy 8 hours a day 5 days a week, that is a large percentage of your life you spend unhappy, and you have the choice to change that! I would always suggest doing at work what makes you happy and excited, because you will come home and live life happier. It just depends on what you want and what makes you happy.

you guys severely overestimate how much it costs to live in the LA area ( i won't live IN la, but 12 miles from it)

here where i'm at, close to monterey, food costs about the same, if not more, and my rent is 850 for a 1 bedroom 🙁
