Convince me NOT to buy this car:

N8Magic

Lifer
I am going to test drive this car tomorrow. If I like it, i'm going to buy it. (more pics here)

I was going to buy a VW Golf, but I have heard so many horror stories of electrical problems and the like, that I have shyed away from VW altogether. I am also going to test drive an RSX Premium (not Type-S).

What do you guys think?

(ps. this will be my last "i'm going to buy a car" thread, I don't want to sound like a broken record here.)

I'm not going to do that. In fact, I encourage you to look at and test drive as many cars in your price range as you can.

Ditto what garfang said

ps good move on passing on the golf 😉

also shop around for the financing ie check out credit unions too

Stupid Nissan designers couldn't come up with any good ideas on how to make the car look better. So what do they do? Let's take the headlights from a car which a ton of people love (the Skyline) and put them on the Sentra! Yeah, that'll work! :| they freaking bastardized the Skyline by even making the Sentra look anything close to it. Don't buy it. 🙂

*edit* mechanically I don't have anything against the car, actually I don't know anything about it mechanically, but aesthetically... sheesh they just ripped off of the car that is probably my #1 favorite.

<< You shouldn't buy that car because it is ugly and it is a Nissan. >>

Prepare blow torches for flaming. Set to vaporize.

hey maybe look into the more sportier version - spec v

a buddy of mine bought the se-r but he told me he regrets it now because of the preformance and the 6 speed the spec v offers

you might even want to look into an 2001? integra GSR or RSX. both very nice cars (top build quality from honda)

look at the mazda protege MP3 (great handling) also

test drive as much as you can-you dont wanna make a 20,000 mistake

you know... i can't come up with any good reasons not to buy the car 😉

what else have you looked at besides the golf.

i think you'll get the most out of your money if you go with the Spec V.
It has everything that the SE-R has, but adds:
HLSD, 6 Speed, 17" rims/tires, 10hp/tq, and a few other's I can't remember off the top of my head (racing seats, RF stereo, ABS, some of these might be options).

They say the Protege handles better, but does not even come close to the Spec V in terms of performance.

Nissan ~ Driven

Go for the SE-R not the Spec-V. Your not going to feel a difference in performance and the engine is so torquey that you won't really need the 6-spd, other than to look cool.

Plus you'll have a hard time getting the Spec-V for a good price while SE-R probably aren't selling as well, so you can negoiate better on it.

That said, goodluck and have fun. Check out www.b15sentra.net to talk to other SE-R owners.

Not a bad choice, depending on how much you pay. I'd recommend these, price includes evedrything and nicely loaded.

Corolla - 17k

Civic - 21k

Altima - 21K

Jetta - 24k

I say buy it only after doing thorough research (posting 100 threads here, reading the UseNet NewsGroups, car magazines, ePinions.com, car websites, consumer reports, car mags, etc.) and make sure you get a good price!

Other cars I would consider are the new Hyundai Elantra GLS or GT, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Mazda Protege 5 or MP3 or whatever it's called.

Good move on NOT buying the VW. The last thing you wanna do is buy a new car which has a history of problems.

WOW! What a response... I'll try to answer some of the questions.

- I was looking at the Spec-V, not the normal SE-R.
- I wish you could get the yellow one, but I am looking at a black one.
- I already have financing arranged at 5.25%
- the new Altima is out of my price range once all of the goodies I want are on it. ($23,998CDN Spec-V vs. $31,498CDN Altima 3.5SE)
- the Mazda MP3 is not sold in Canada (that I can find)

Keep those opinions coming!

i would never take that car over a golf. there is a world of difference in build quality and materials used. the golf has a 4 yr warranty anyways which is longer then the nissan.

The warranty is longer by one year.

I'm a high miler, so I am going to blow through the warranty anyways. 🙂

Its a Nissan and were talking about warranty here?

Whats a warranty for on a Japanese car, assuming you have it serviced when it needs...? 😉

i test drove the se-r spec v a while back... and i absolutely loved it. I wish i could afford to get a new car right now.

Sure, it looks cool, but how does it do in the snow? They DO get snow in Ontario, right? 🙂 You might want to consider getting a Subaru WRX, which has all-wheel drive.
