Convex Conroe?

Ok, everybody's heard about concave Conroes, but how about a concave one? I think my Conroe 6600 has a convex IHS - i run it @ 3.61GhZ on a Noctua NH-U9 with an Arctic Cooling 120mm fan set at full speed and it keeps up 45-49 C at 1.55v on my Asus p5b deluxe. I noticed some weird temps while rendering (57C???) and decided to try a double SP2004 stress-test. It hit 60C in the FIRST 5 Secs, then i turned it off. When i took the Noctua off, i noticed that there was only a small circular spot in the AS5 where the IHS made contact with the heatsink. Anyone else with this kind of problem?
 
The problem is... you're pushing 1.55v through it on AIR. 60C load with 3.6GHz / 1.55v on air is NOT a bad thing.

If you want lower temperatures, try reducing the voltage (and the overclock) a bit, or go with water / phase cooling.

Edit: FYI: 60C will not destroy your processor. It is safe to run it that hot. It will, however, lower the lifespan of the processor significantly. If you're worried about temps that high, I really suggest taking your overclock down to the 3.2-3.4GHz range, and your voltage no higher than 1.45.

and you think 60c is hot for prime load
buddy lower your voltage and get a reality check
 
The processor should start to throttle at 85C. You'll see damage at around 100C. 60C is cold for an overclocked C2D.

Anyhow i posted my Load temps at 30min orthos.

And Op, 1.55V on AIR is asking for a bit too much, unless u live where it snows with the windows open.

maybe/maybe not 60C is not high for a Conroe..there are alot of stock HSF doing this
 
I really just don't feel safe running my processor over 50C for long periods of time. I had it stable at 3.6GHz at one point, but I was pushing high 50s - low 60s on load... which was too hot for me. Sure, the processor probably won't just up and quit within a year, but I'd rather not take my chances. I can't afford another $320 right now. 😛

On the other hand, I'm experimenting right now to see how far I can push the processor on stock voltage. Right now I have it at 3.0GHz (haven't stability tested yet) with 30-32C idle, and 35-37C Orthos load. Not too bad. 🙂 TAT load brings it up to the mid 40s though. 🙁
