I converted a bunch of WMA files i ripped from my CD's into MP3's using "Switch Sound File Converter" and i tried to sort the volumes out with the "MP3gain" program but it dosent recognise these newly converted files as MP3's it recognises them as mpeg1 layer I or layer II, i even turned off the safety feature that disables this check in MP3gain but it still didnt work. What gives? I still have a copy of the old files in WMA just in case.

Also on another note MP3gain fails to analyze the volume in an MP3 due to "not enough samples" What does that mean? Theres no correlation between the MP3's mentioned above and the 4-5 or so affected by this, its just another problem i noticed.

I'm not familiar with what you used to convert. My recommendation is to just dump them all, use Foobar and LAME and have it apply ReplayGain. It won't take much time to convert and if they do a better job of doing it as well as maintaining tags then it'll save you time anyways. dbpoweramp would also work. MediaMonkey was solid as well.

Use dBpoweramp, it's free. Also probably don't want to go from one lossy format to another.

This is a prime example of why CDs end up smashed after mastering. They'll end up sounding better after everything the OP did.
