Converting Vinyl To MP3

I'm using a trial version of Audio Record Wizard. It's limited to 3 minutes of recording, and no editing ability. I saw a couple others that had the same limitation, and RipEditBurn, which times out after a couple weeks.

I'll willingly pay $20.00 for something that can record directly to MP3, and gladly pay that much for one that enables editing as well. But, I'd feel pretty stupid paying anything at all, if there are free solutions out there. Can anybody give me a head start on where to find it? Thanks.

Can't you use the crap that came with your soundblaster live to save as .wav, then use winamp or something to convert to mp3?

The problem is, not everything is available on CD.

I am going through the same issues.

If he gets the Media Edition Plus! Pack from the store, he can use that to go from vinyl to MP3. The app has a good interface and editing features including filters.

There are a fair number of '80s albums (and earlier) that never made it to CD, or are only available as $20-40 imports.

Also, record companies have let thousands of CDs go out of print, so you can only try to track down used copies.

Some snobs think the analog purity of vinyl is superior to cold digital sound, despite the low SNR and limited dynamic range :p

Finally, he already owns the LPs :)

Thanks Heisenberg, I'm recording Roxy Music's first album from 1972 using Audacity. I love it so far, but it's only recording the left channel though I can hear both being input... I'll figure it out. Thanks again!

:music: Hark the frozen chimes of winter
Crystal shimmer in your mind
To the first time when you saw her
You implored her to be kind
In the open fields around you
All before you gone to ground
Both the question and the answer
Deep inside you - you shall find
And while you're strollin'
Through the summer of your years
Enchanted, a garden overgrown
Don't call me sentimental
Those of you who care
Could find there a lover and a friend.....to the end :music:

Ferry solo music is good too :)

Ah, more into the electronic era than Roxy'Ferry's more lush / romantic period. So you probably have Bowie's Heroes but not Ziggy or Diamond Dogs.

Sorry I can't help with Audacity, I got rid of my vinyl about 15 years ago.

I use a multitude of different software to record. I like Ferio's recording interface and the one in the new Nero works pretty well too but I don't use the automatic feature and afterwards I use Nero Wave Editor to break up the tracks into individual files. I have used the recorder in EAC also. Just about any recording software will do the job for getting the wav files on the HD. I like to use WinOnCD for the editing because the noise filters and pop/click removal is easy to use and very effective. I have over 300 LPs on vinyl and about half are not available on CD so I am working on those. You can also read HERE to get some other ideas and also how to use WinOnCD. If I can help you let me know.
