converting usb printer to wireless, but different

So, I was wandering around my local electronics store today, and noticed a marked down wireless network usb adapter(the kind used on laptops). Well, the rusty wheels in my head started turning and I wondered if I could use one of those wireless adapters in the usb port on my printer and use the printer via my wireless network instead of through the computer it is currently tethered to. Can I use just any wireless usb adapter or do I need one that specifically says it is a print server? I suspect that any one will do, but I would like to hear from someone that actually knows what they are doing. What I like about this setup is that the wireless adapter is powered from the usb port, instead of having yet another @#*$ power supply to plug into the wall. This is all assuming that the printer supplies power to the usb port, I'll find that out later. So let's just assume so for now.

Thanks
