Converting Linksys router to switch

I have been trying to convert my Linksys BEFSR41 router to a switch. I have done it successfully with Netgear routers before...unfortunately, the control panel interfaces are different for the different brands and the same steps do not work.

I have done the obvious steps: setting the routers IP statically to an IP on the network I'm trying to plug it in to. I also disabled the DCHP. At this point, all computers connecting to the router fail to even connect to the router anymore, let alone the network the router is plugged into. Does anyone have any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? Or even better, is there a site that would list step by step instructions on turning a Linksys router into a switch?

1. disable the DHCP capability of the 41 under the DHCP tab
2. block WAN request should be enabled
3. change the LAN IP of the 41 to 10.10.10.1 (or something else)
4. do a power cycle
5. run a straight-thru cable from the uplink port of the 41 to the regular port of your other router

You don't really have to do anything, just don't use the router part and disable DHCP (only necessary if you're not static)

Thanks, turns out my problem was that you can't have something plugged into uplink and port 1 at the same time.
