I have 13 Cheapo Depot shoplights that I want to slowly (when existing tubes die) covert to LED. Anyone converted these - removing ballast and re-wiring - and can give some tips for success? The Depot sells direct replacement but they don't work with their own shoplights, so... I ordered some single ended LED T8 tubes and will start my first fixture tomorrow.

My tip is save yourself a lot of extra work and just get new fixtures designed for the new bulbs.
Thats what we did in the house. I think its easier.

Also, pics.
We need pics.

Pics of what you have, and pics of what you want.

If your t12's are 4 ft, you've got several options. If they're 8 ft, or HO (single pin) you're better off listening to Shorty (when aren't we?!??!).
You may have to remove, or easier just disconnect, the ballast and have 120v at the sockets for newer bulbs, but they are actually becoming viable options now. Menard's has some for 6 or 7 bucks each I believe.

I've tried the direct replacement LED's from HoDeHo for 4 foot fluorescent. No re-wiring necessary. They are maybe half the light output that I had from the florescent they replaced. Didn't work for me.

The LED shop light fixtures seem too expensive for what they are. When the ballasts start to go on my shop lights I am going to just put regular light sockets in. High lumen LED bulbs are much cheaper than the equivalent led shop light.
