upon clean install of win 2000 i am unable to convert to NTFS file sytem no error messages it just tells me that it wasnt able to convert (i used convertC:/fs:ntfs, under cmd line)the only way i can install win2000 is under fat32 if i decide to choose ntfs as file system during install it gives me an error saying that one of my devices is not wroking right or something, but the wierd thing is that about a month ago when i first installed win 2000 on my computer it loaded fine using ntfs file system but now that i re-installed it only allows me to use fat32 any suggestions please!

During installation, you are asking SETUP to format the partition before usage right?? Perhaps there is something about the partitioning that W2K doesn't like. You could try to remove ALL partition within W2K's setup, and then re-create the partition you need and see if it likes that better as opposed to using previously created partitions...Regards

i tried that i deleted all partitions and created new partitions with the setup disk then it formated it (which took about 2hrs on a 60 GB drive) well it loaded up fine but when it restarted after installing the setup files right after the win2000 screen , a blue screen appears telling me that my hardware is not compliant or is not accesible (something like that ) to restart snd see if that helps if not get updates for my harware but all i have on is my video card (ati 128pro and cdrw) it doesnt make any sense

i tried using partition magic but it wont let me do it either wierd ?

Weird. It's not entirely impossible that one or more of your hardware devices is not fully supported by Windows 2000.
Microsoft has a web site that lists all Windows 2000-compliant devices... try looking for your stuff there.

Do you have an ata100 controller on your motherboard? Maybe its a driver problem...? If so try hooking your drive up to the regular ide channel instead of ata100, then once sucessfully formatted and loaded, install the ata100 driver......

You might try running a zero write utility on the drive, then format & partition from scratch.

This solved a similar problem for me once.

I do have simple solution for your problem. First of all boot your PC using DOS 6.22 setup diskette, it will ask you to run setup of DOS. Install it. Than install Windows NT on NTFS partition (Either upgrad DOS or have dual booting) and lastly upgrade your WINNT using WIN 2000. I am sure it will work
