i'd recommend partition magic, by far the easiest way to convert from fat 32 to ntfs.

if you don't have that, in disk management in windows...i believe there is a way

when I upgraded from win ME to xp I don't believe it gave me the option for volume label??? it just used the same label and asked me If I wanted to convert the file system.

although I'm sure there probably is a way to.

I did and had some problems with some programs not working right so ended up backing up files formatting and doing a clean install. seemed to work much better.

Sorry I know that really didn't answer your ?

Yes I agree, I used Partition Magic to do the same task and it was very easy.

The label is what's displayed in my computer or on the properties of the volume. Just hit properties on the drive and set a label if there isn't one.

Hmmm I guess you must be using the CONVERT utility that comes with WinXP. First if you don't know this, open up a command prompt window and type "convert /?" to get the help. When it asks for the drive label, the label is the name of the partition. For instance, it may be, Volume label 1, or something other specified. Getting the label is very easy: just look at the name of the partition in Windows Explorer

Just the name in explorer. To check it from a cmd prompt just enter 'label c:'
