Converting an LCD from a laptop for use as a flat-panel monitor? Possible?

One of my friends has about a dozen old laptops, and wants to take off the LCDs and use them as flat-panel monitors. I told him I didn't think it's possible, he said it is. He proceeded to show me this, some kind of Schematics for doing this with a specific LCD model. These schematics are for an incredibly old LCD, so they probably wouldn't apply to anything more recent. I doubt that there's just one general way to do this for all LCDs; I would imagine it'd be different for each model of LCD, but I may be wrong. Any help of any sort would be highly appreciated.

a 10"-12" LCD monitor?? 😀

I'm sure its possible, but never thought it would be worth the trouble.. 🙂

Possible? Yes. Just as it would be possible for you to build a car from all the pieces you could buy at the auto parts store. Not worth the cost or effort.

Laptops have proprietary, non-standard video interfaces, you have to make a custom power supply, and other fun stuff.

This issue is asked on these forums at least 3 times every week, haven't ever heard of anyone successfully doing it.

I think if you got the hardware working (if you were really good with electronics) then you would probably have to write a driver for it too..
