I have some AAC files that I want to convert to MP3 without loseing ANY quality, can this be done? They are unprotected files.

Not really. Both are lossy formats so you will lose quality when converting.

That being said, using the Lame VBR encoding, it shouldn't be a particularly noticable loss.

By the technical definition of MP3, no, MP3 is not a lossless codec.

FLAC, Monkeys Audio, ALAC, and WM9 lossless are the only lossless audio codecs I know of.

yea if you can convert it into lossless format. less than optimal space wise but its the only way not to lose a bit of quality.

Well then my next question is is there a Portable player that can play AAC OTHER than IPOD? I don't want to buy and IPOD they are stupidly expensive compaied to other mp3 players of the same quality, size, space.

Or how about converting AAC to a format that can be played in a normal MP3 player and not IPOD only?

The truth is, unless you have some above average hearing, encoding into VBR WMA9 or OGG Vorbis at higher than 128 kbps will probably sound just fine to you. There are a lot of audio players that handle both WMA and OGG Vorbis.

Do you have a program that you would recommend?
