Converting a USB to PS/2

Well I never would have imagined that this was that hard to find. But does anyone know how you would make a USB keyboard work on an old computer that only has ps/2 keyboard and mouse ports?

I got the mouse to work with a USB to PS/2 converter that came in the box, but I can't seem to make the keyboard work? Why is it that the same coverter for the mouse does not work for the keyboard?

Thanks for any help in advance!

The pinout is NOT the same at the PS/2 jacks for the kbd and mse and unless the kbd is designed to work converted (has the connection detector electronics built in), it won't work that way anyhow. I see plenty of adapters to connect PS/2 kbd/mse to USB but none the other way. If a keyboard can work both ways, it will include the adapter.
. Just go ahead and get a PS/2 kbd - many are as cheap or cheaper than an adapter would be anyway. Or get a better kbd that can work both ways.

Thanks folks, actually the thing is like this: I have the computer with usb ports, but I have a bar code reader that plugs into the ps/2 port of the keyboard via a y-connector that the keyboard must plug into in order to have the barcode reader work. The keyboard is USB and I want to convert it to PS/2 connection. Now I know such a connector does exist, but I want to purchase it seperately and not with a new keyboard.

See this link for what I am referring to: LINK to Keyboard USB to PS/2 converter

Thanks for your help...and thanks for the tip that the USB to PS/2 converter for mouse and keyboard are different for power needs.

I am almost sure this isn't going to work (just selling adapters they had left over from some keyboards with which they came) just an infinite profit ploy (you pay $4, they paid $0 - divide by 0 = infinity). Like I said, if you figure shipping you can get a cheap PS/2 keyboard for less but here you go if you want to risk it: http://www.mchoward.com/generic.html?pid=23
