Converting 3-pin HS fan to a 2-pin

I was wondering if anyone has ever converted their 3-pin HS fans to a 2-pin in-line PS, like the really old Socket 7s. The reason I want to do this is because the all the 3-pin fan headers on my Asus P97L-S board don't work. They used to work, then I put a new heatsink on and now they don't -If anyone knows why this happened or how to fix, please let me know. Other than the fan headers, the board works fine.

I was thinking ok just cutting the wires on the HS fan and attatching them to the PS connectors. Will this work if there's no easy way to fix my MB?

Thanks,
Ken

yeah, its better to run fans (esp. big fans) off of the case chassis, and not the mobo headers. less drain on the mobo and attached components. (I do run the cpu HSF off of a board header, just for the rpm alarm, but thats it).

you might have burned out the fan headers somehow on that last HW install.
