Just thought I'd say that convertibles kick ass.
My gf and I decided to rent a convertible for a long weekend trip to Williamsburg, VA and I must say that it was just great.
We are under 25 so we had to rent from Enterprise and after a mix-up in which the office we went to rented out their only convertible (which we had reserved :|) they drove us to the airport office where they had an '02 Sebring with less than 3000 miles on it. This was really the first time either of us had spent time driving a convertible (I've ridden in several, but it's been a while).
The weather was sunny, high 70's and driving with the top down is just awesome. Sun on your face, wind in your hair. Just being able to see the clouds or stars above you was awesome. It made the fairly long drive fun instead of a chore. We motored around the area having a grand old time (Busch Gardens was fun, too).
Anyhoo, I think that convertibles are highly addictive. The Sebring was actually pretty nice, but I'm hoping to get a roadster for our next car.
Best to have a fun, impractical car while we're young, I say. I know convertibles have their shortfalls, but I think I got more enjoyment from one weekend of driving a convertible than from years of driving the other cars I've owned. I'll suffer through higher insurance, 6 months of top-up driving, small trunk, huge blind spots, etc. if I can drive top-down all summer long.
