Hello there,
After reading a lot of reviews I thought I'd access the Anandtech forum competence in choosing the right device.
I'm for quite some time looking for a decent high quality tablet, with a keyboard dock, that doesn't have the apple SW limitations, meaning that I want to have file access, open formats and so on...
Therefore I was looking at the Asus transformer pad infinity. But Asus already announced the new version of it replacing the really old tegra 3 with the 4 ages ago.
While waiting on the Tegra 4 my friend suggested I should look at windows 8 tablets, because as I am running Ubuntu on my main desktop as the only OS, a small poor mans windows tablet/netbook allows me to run some minor x86 applications like logitech remote ctrl sw too.
Besides I could do everything I usually want, email, google maps, offline nav, browsing, watching videos on various formats and playing little tablet games. Win 8.1 is just around the corner too.
So there I found the only Windows tablet that had all the specs I want (lightweigth, good bright screen, gps, stylish, good autonomy):
The Asus Vivo Tab.
But then I read the Atom clover trail GPU drama... seeming to be only faster than a casio watch...
while the device has a price tag of a rolex...
Although gaming is not (anymore) THE core use for me, as one of the first Voodoo buyers in Europe many years ago something is hindering me from spending that much money on something with that GPU.
So my to my questions,
what alternatives to the vivo tab are there left?
how bad is the atom clover trail performance really in use? Can I play common tablet games ("doodle" e.E.?), maybe an old emulator?
Can I do simple excel stuff with diagrams, can I zoom google maps as smooth as on other top notch mobile platforms? What's really noticeably slower than - say - on an ipad 4?
Thank you for your comments!
