Converter Recommendation?

I just picked up this monitor:

Acer P244Wbii Glossy Black 24" 2ms (GTG) HDMI 16:9 Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 20000:1 ACM - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824009154

The problem with it is that my video card (EVGA Geforce 8800 GTS) has 2 DVI-I outputs and the monitor has 2 HDMI inputs as well as a regular VGA one.

Dumb.

I don't get why they did this.

What converter do you recommend? Will the basic DVI to VGA converter that came with my video card be as good as a DVI to HDMI?

I assume the DVI to VGA converter is actually converting to analog rather than just fitting the digital peg into the analog hole so in theory, that should mean lower quality and I should likely go with the DVI to HDMI converter instead.

Please don't take my bluntness the wrong way but I'm looking for more factual info than opinion.

----------------

Whatever the verdict, any recommendations on specific DVI to HDMI converters that go from video card to the monitor would be appreciated. I saw this one on newegg:

I think that's what I'd be looking for. Please feel free to correct me :) .

dvi to vga will not be as good.

because of conversion losses.

digital to analog, to analog then back to digital can lead to a lot of signal loss, loss in sharpness etc. its POSSIBLE it wont be worse, but highly unlikely.

buy a dvi to hdmi cable. or a dvi to hdmi adapter and an hdmi cable.

The DVD-I outputs on the card will output either digital or analog depending on what you hook up to it, the adapters just change the connection type, nothing os converted in them. As far as quality, assuming good hardware all around the analog connection can look just as good as the digital, but there is less room for error in the digital connection so it is generally best to just use that.

Also, you don't actually need a seprate adapter, you can get cables to go directly between DVI and HDMI:

Yeah, what Hans said. ;)

Thanks for the input, all.

Does the adapter that I linked look like its any good?

Snowman, is that cable's HDMI going to fit into the monitor? I assume the monitor HDMI input is female but I haven't gotten it yet. I thought you might know what the standard for that sort of thing is. The picture on the monitor looks like the inputs are female. Just making sure :) .

Thanks again!

Yeah, HDMI devices have female inputs, so either the cable I linked or the adapter you linked along with a standard DVI cable will work just fine.
