People used to do the same thing to the old-school Beetles too, doing it on the New Beetle is probably an homage to that heritage.
On the old Beetles, they'd have to move the engine. That's dedication.

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought, the hatches are already pretty flexible as far as loading.

My airplane partner had an El Camino that he put four-wheel drive suspension under. It was very tastefully done. It was an awesome car! The seat height was just perfect to swing up into.

so whats the ramp for?
for easier loading and unloading?
I mean, back when it was new, I'm pretty sure nobody was going to stop you from riding in the back...

Would be cool for an ATV actually. Being way lower than a pickup it's also less sketchy than going up a ramp at 45 degree from the back while trying not to smash into the back window.
