Why does he want a convertible? 😛

And yeah, in that pricerange, Miata's about all you'll get. Women don't care - all they see is the droptop and go all ga-ga. 😛

chrysler sebring, my dad got a 98 for 4300, great shape, and i know a lot of you arnt chrysler fans, but its a fun car, and has a lot of space for a backseat and trunk too

I'm gonna have to go with Miata or Mustang. For the love of god please don't let him buy a 'stang with less then 8 cylinders! (well, unless its a 2.3 turbo but I'm not sure those ever went into convertibles)

I agree-Bash it all you want, but you can't have such a fun car that is reliable under $5k.

and much more fun to drive. If he can put up with some people making fun of him, the Miata is probably the best bet.

Oh, and don't get a Sunbird no matter what you do. If I had my choice of having to run five miles barefoot over broken glass, or drive a Sunbird, I think I'd run. A friend had a Sunbird convertible...the thing was immaculately taken care of, and yet it got terrible mileage, had NO power, leaked after a while, and blow a HG at 50k or so. VERY disappointing.
