I"m using a sony vcr plugged into my
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 and recording
to my hard drive.

The video is fine but no sound !

Both video and sound are OK when the
vcr is plugged into a TV.

Video and sound are fine on TV,and
when I play a DVD movie on the DVD drive.

WHat am I missing ?

I think you're forgetting about the sound from the vcr to your computer's sound card. It's carried seperately from the video signal.

You need an RCA-to-headphone-jack adapter. You can get them all over the place.

Plug the headphone jack (usually 1/8") into the line input on your soundcard.

I am using the RF connectors on both the VCR and the TV card.
The RF connector carries both video and sound.
And, the TV card is connected to the sound card.

The video is fine, and sound should be there, but it's not.
Video quality is not the problem right now.

Thanks for responding - any new thoughts ?

If you just play a tape on your computer without recording it, can you hear the sound? The RF connector is what I used to use to play the PS2 on my computer, and I received both video and sound. It was a VERY old TV card. Do you have anything else you could hook up to the RF connector on your PVR?

Edit: just noticed that you had already stated the VCR worked fine when connected to the TV.

What software are you using to record?
Have you ever recorded anything else (like a cable box output) using the RF connector on your PVR-150?
What software are you using to play the recorded video?

The RF connector on your PVR card might just be ignoring the sound, and only dealing with the video.

Cheesehead -

I should have added -

Video and sound are both fine with cable input
to the PVR card thru the RF connector.
