Convert phone port to ethernet

Ok, I am really confused about why this isn't working. To give you some background, my home is wired with CAT5 cable and RJ45 connectors for all the phones. In my office, I have 2 ethernet ports which are "green wired". There is a junction box upstairs where all off the phone lines are provided signal. So here is what I tried to do.

I first tested the different connections at the junction box to determine which phone outlet they are going to. I picked 2 phone outlets that I want to convert to ethernet ports. I connected an output from my router to one of the green ports in my office. I then checked the signal at the junction box at the green wire (the phone lines are blue), and am getting internet signal there. I then connected the wire receiving signal from my office to the connector that is going to a phone outlet, but do not receive signal at the phone outlet. I tried a crossover cable in case the 568A and B standards were giving me problems, but nothing. I opened the phone outlet to see if all the RJ45 connections were made, and all 8 wires are connected. I am at a loss as to why the signal will not go to the phone outlet.

Is there some rewiring I have to do at the jack?

Thanks for any thoughts in advance.

Could you take pics of the "junction box" and the punch-downs on the RJ45 jacks? Can't advise much without more information about how the wires are actually connected.

OK, will post some pics in the morning, as junction box is in my daughter's closet.

I know this makes me retarded, but how do I post a pic on this site? The FAQ says to attach the file, but this no longer seems to be an option. The FAQ also suggests using your album from user control panel, but that does not seem to exist. As I don't use any on line picture posting sites, a suggestion on where to upload and link to would be great. Thanks.

Use any photo hosting site. Dozens exist and google is your friend.

Use IMG tags on either side

Code:

Thanks for the replies guys. While this may come as no surprise to many of you, apparently I am a complete moron. When rmoving the plates to photograph the junction box, I realized that I was plugging the internet signal into the phone output, instead of the line going to the phone jack.

Hope you guys get a kick out of this, as I am quite embarrassed and annoyed at having wasted an hour last night running up and down the stairs tring to check the signal at the phone jack. A simple ethernet switch should take care of this problem. Sorry to have started a useless thread.
