convert MTS to mp4 files

You could try the AMD video converter (separate download from the catalyst drivers) - it will appear in CCC after restarting (post-installation).

I've never used it before. Are you familiar with it?

The machine has a 5770 in it. I installed the software but don't see the, Start Video Converter, button

EDIT: never mind, i rebooted my pc and now i sees it, :awe:

GPGPU based video converters are the best hands down. A 5770 should be able to convert a feature length film in 20 minutes. I use CyberLink Espresso, which is payware but a little more user friendly than AMD's. The AMD one can be fickle about input formats.

I was planning on converting all my MTS and M2TS files, but then again I don't really have to have it in any other format for use in any other portable media devices. I just use an external media player and called it a day.

Used handbrake to do my conversions but I saw the degradation in quality and didn't bother anymore. I like to keep my 1080p videos intact.

I would just demux the mts and m2ts files with tsmuxer, convert the audio to 2-channel .aac with MeGUI and then remux all the original streams, adding the new .aac stream as the 1st audio stream, with YAMB.

Voila, ten minutes and you have an .mp4 file that should play on most devices.

what don't you like about .6?

I made a thread about it. The main thing is that it loses constant size encoding. I can still do constant bitrate and caculate it, but it's just a pain, and especially with different-size videos that I want the same size.

err, movies have different length, constant size is the aberration.

I guess MeGUI would be the best. Under the one click, show advanced options, encoder config there's a don't encode video option. I use AVIdemux since it doesn't require anything else to be installed but it uses FAAC instead of NeroAAC so audio quality could be better.
