Hi,

A friend of mine is using AOL as realy wants to get away from it entierly. What he needs to do is convert his File Cabinet of email files into some generic format and import into something like Outlook.
I have found some such prgrams here and there online but I am not sure if they will work.
The problem is that the file cabinet is over 700 MB with tons on mail that he needs to keep so problem is finding a converting software that can actualy handle the large file and convert it into a format that hopefuly will be more compressed and faster.

Thanks
elkinm

I don't think so. AOHell is propriatary and that's how they trap longtime users, cuz they don't want to lose their saved stuff.

They go though great lengths to make sure that you cannot convert it. I worked for CNN when it was bought by AOL. AOL thought that the standard e-mail application should be *gasp* AOL. When we called over to "corporate" to find out how to convert everyone's mail into something that AOL would accept, they flat out told us that they try to make it so that you CANT do those things. The recommendation (keep in mind they said this to a vice president) was to forward our existing emails to the new AOL account. At the time I had 17, 000 + emails.

Once they realized that this was NOT going to work (took them 6 months) they explained that the 6 months of email that we had received would need to be forwarded to our old address. :| We were not talking to techs. We were talking to system admins that managed the mail servers for AOL :| I started a petition to legalize killing stupid people. :p

There are programs online that claim to be able to convert the file cabinet from AOL 5,6 or 7. My friend has 7.0. Also commmercials for somehting like MSN say they can import your AOL inbox.

Do any of these work, or are they limited in some way.

Thanks again
