Convert From Win2K NTFS To FAT32 for Linux?

Hi there...

I have a home fileserver with a hard drive (2.1GB) for the OS which currently has Win2K Pro on it and a separate HD (60GB) for files and MP3's. Both drives are formatted in NTFS, but I plan to move to Linux tomorrow and therefore I cannot run NTFS on the drives. Now, the OS drive is fine as I'll be formatting it, but the files drive is NTFS and I'm wondering of there is some way to convert the drive back to FAT32 from NTFS? If not, I guess I will need to copy all of my files to another computer, format the drive on the server for FAT32 so Linux can work with it, then copy all of my files back?

Suggestions are appreciated! 🙂

Also, I plan to use Linux RedHat with a server install so I can start learning Linux.

Thanks!

hmm, well linux can mount windows partitions using samba, however i think you will have to be running a linux and win machine in order to do that. there is no way to just change the file system, you will need to copy all the files and then format the hard drive. oh and i think linux doesnt use fat32 but ext2 or reifers(sp?) but i might be wrong, i always get them confused.

OK, that's what I thought. I will do the formatting with RedHat, so whatever the filesystem it uses, it will be right 🙂

Files are copying.

Thanks!
