I would like to organize my DVDs on my PC so I can watch them on my PS3. How do I go about doing this?

I plan on using Orb to stream since it works well for my music.

If the OP can, he should be converting to H.264+AAC-5.1, which has far better compression. Use a bitrate of 2000kbps or so for the video, 128-192kbps for the audio.

If the PS3 supports 5.1 audio with h.264, yeah he should. I couldn't remember if it does or not.

FUW works awesome. I sprung for the $29.99 donation supported version, which gives multi-core rendering and twice the final file size for much better quality encodes.

Add IMGBurn (freeware) and AnyDVD (must pay for this) to get your own video transcoding studio up and running.

Nice

Does it decrypt DVDs as it converts?

Depending on the decryption scheme it can. I've run across some DVDs that it won't handle. Just rip the DVD to ISO using DVD Decrypter or another app and FUW will convert using the ISO.

What software do you use to stream? I was thinking about using Orb, but I am also considering Tversity.

I have a 360 so I just use the built-in streaming from the 360 Dash and WMP.

Either Tversity or Orb would be fine though. Here is a thread on the official playstation forum about setting up Tversity.

I've also been using the same combination of three programs mentioned above and have had great results with these.

WMP11 on a Windows Home Server Box

Tversity was way too slow for me.

Are you using a wireless or wired connection?

+1

Also for viewing files you could try installing the CCCP codec which includes ffdshow.

Two alternate players for viewing these files are VLC Player, the nice thing about VLC is you don't need to install any codecs to view files

&/or

Media player classic

I love VLC. CCCP seems to be outdated most of the time and ffdshow will play most anything. Actually, VLC will play most anything too, and IMO the less codec packs on my PC the better.

I use Tversity for all my PS3 streaming and it seems to do the job quite well with very little software footprint. I haven't heard of ORB, so I won't comment on it. Not to thread jack, but if anyone has had success getting .mkv to transcode through Tversity, I'd love to hear how you got it to work.

Wireless on the PS3. WMP11 Streams fine.

My assumption was Tversity was transcoding the files and that isn't needed. WMP11 does not to transcode anything and they will stream fine to the PS3

There is an option in TVersity for "Only transcode when necessary", can't remember if that's the default or not.
I only asked because my TVersity was a little sluggish via wireless, but is much better now that it's wired.

There's also an option to "Never Transcode". I use that plus have my system hardwired and don't have any speed issues with TVersity. Works perfectly.
