Convert Athlon XP to MP...how do i?

I was reading a post earlier that talked about making a daully AMD rig by converting XP's to MP's.

I too plan on making a daully rig in the future (6+ months from now) so I started doing my homework now. I already decided on a 3Ware serial raid card... anyways....

I was just going to get two MP processors, but I was thinking, if I can get faster XP processors, can I mod them into MPs? if so, how?

Thankx!

There's no way of converting XP processors into MPs. Some XPs will run in SMP configurations anyway but then again some won't. It's always a bit hit and miss so it depends if you're willing to gamble with XPs or spend more and be safe with MPs.

My attitude is upgrade path, so I would rather go MP 2000+ instead of XP 2200+. A year from now, I can always upgrade to two new MP 3500 processors 🙂

This said, there are still a number of XP chips that won't run in SMP configs. MPs are pre-tested and guaranteed to do so. XPs may operate flakily or not at all, even if modded bridges make the motherboard believe its an MP chip.

It's a similar thing to re-configuring the bridges to change the multiplier. Some CPUs will run at the higher frequency out of pure luck, others won't.
