Convert 8mm to mpeg?

Hi, folks!
I've just started researching this particular topic myself. Apparently, the 8mm film needs to be first projected onto a white wall or beaded screen and then recorded by either a digital or analog camcorder. In the case of a digital camcorder the recorded images can be input through a firewire port. With analog, you'll need to have a capture card, like the ATI AIW to capture the video and convert it to MPEG 1 or 2. There are several web sites that may prove useful in getting the information you need. VCDHelp is a very good starting source of information, and might be able to refer you to another site that could offer more specific instructions.
I'm still waiting to get a 8mm projector to try out the various methods and see which one(s) work best given the quality of the vintage 8mm films, the video and computer equipment I have available and expertise I have. It is a do-able project and I'm eager to start.

Best,

Stutz
