Conversion of a Radeon 8500 to a Radeon 9100

I've heard that it's possible to convert a Radeon 8500 board to a Radeon 9100 board using a BIOS flash, since the 9100 is just a rebadged 8500. I have two questions.

1) Does this only work with third-party 8500-series boards, or does it work with ATI-branded boards as well? I ask because ATI never made its own 9100 board.
2) Does this work with the All-in-Wonder series or only with the normal 8500?

Thanks.

yeap...

i did the same. No difference.

Only works on any Non-AIW 8500's, just watch out for the mem/core speed difference of the bios, cause some cards can't handle the increased - if you have one of those horrible 8500LELELE models

My scores actually went up a bit. The 9100 bios is newer and has more aggressive memory timings. I can email you the files you'll need to do it if you want.

A retail original Radeon 8500 64/128MB is clocked 275/275 which I believe is actually higher than that of most 9100s... in otherwords they are the same thing with the 8500 still possibly being a little bit better...

It's the same card so don't bother, especially since you lose warranty support the minute you flash the BIOS.
