Conversion Issue: PS2 to USB

Hi All,
Has anyone tried to plug in your favorite old PS2 keyboard into a newer USB-Only computer? At work, I've got a new Dell and all the USB ports are on the back of the LCD monitor (OK, two are on the side of the monitor.)

Anyway, I brought in my ergonomic keyboard w/ a PS2 connecter and a PS2 to USB converter. I got a keyboard error. It would not recognize the keyboard.

I looked in the BIOS--it said that Fast Startup doesn't check some compatibility issues, so I changed it to slow startup. No change.

Has anyone encountered this problem? If there is a solution, I'd really like to know.

Thanks.

What kind of computer DOESN'T have a PS/2 connector? Is this a laptop or something? If it's not then somthing is fishy unless dell decided ONCE AGIAN to be stupid and remove the PS/2 ports thinking that USB is much better.

Unfortunately some laptops don't have ps2 ports. I have a new Dell Lat. D600 and it has no p/s2...

My PC is not a laptop. I'll check the model number at work tomorrow. I couldn't quite remember the model, so I got onto Dell's website, but they had it so idiot-friendly that navigating it was very frustrating.

The latest iteration of Dell's don't have PS2 ports on the back. The Optiplex GX280's we're deploying at my workplace have around 6 USB ports on the back and no PS2 ports. We have to use some USB->Keyboard/Mouse PS2 adapters in order for us to use them with our PS2 KVM's :(

AsianriceX,
The Optiplex 280 is the same one that I am dealing with!

Do you know specifically what brand of adapter you were using? I tried two different adapters and neither one worked. (Not sure what brands I was using.)

Thanks.
