I recently was able to have a conversation with a person working at Nvida. Here are the questions and answers.

Question:When do you think the Nforce 4 motherboards will be out so I can buy them at newegg or some retail store?
Answer:
end of this month/early December.

Most of the first batch are going to editors for review and system builders for full PC integration.

Question:
Awesome, I was just wondering, to use the card will you need to have 2 graphics cards or can you run it with just one. I dont understand that part.

Answer:
You can run with one or two.

That's the nice thing about SLI.. you can use either configuration and upgrade at a later date if you only want/need one GPU today.

Question:
Awesome, thanks for responding to me, usually its hard to ask questions to the company. How much do you think the retail price will be, and will there be other makes other then just Asus?

Answer:
there are a ton of mobo makers.. including MSI, ASUS, and Gigabyte.

We expect retail pricing to be under $200 USD.

no, you can't run X800s in SLI. When ATI implements their version of SLI in future hardware, you will be able to run 2 of them, but not until then. Also, X800s do not have an SLI connector, so they will NEVER be capable of SLI. However, you may be able to run 2 cards independently, i.e. for multi-monitor situations. However, in that case, getting 2 high-end cards is silly. Just get one good card for gaming, and another slow X300SE or something for the extra monitor support.
