Conundrum for the Windows experts

I have a friend whos PSU died and took the Mobo with it. Everything else was fine but it was a cheap eMachines comp, so he just decided to get a new one. He took out the old hard drive, mounted it into an external enclosure, and hooked it up to the new computer to get his old documents, pics, etc. off of it.

Here's the problem. He can't access his folder under "C:\Documents and Settings\Dad" It comes up with an error message saying "Access is denied." Everyone else that had an account on the computer could access their files, but none of their accounts were password protected and his was.

I do know the files are there because I can see the file structure by using a folder only browser through the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, but the wizard dosen't work.

I tried booting off of the old drive in safe mode, but it dosen't finish. It gets to "Mup.sys" and then restarts itself.

I'm lost and have run out of options that I can think of.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Guess I underestimated the Microsoft help.

I always use Google to search the MS support site ... it usually works better than their own site search.
