Controversial Pentagon nominee still gets the job after nomination failed?! WTF?

JEDI

Lifer

Anthony Tata was nominated to become the Department of Defense's undersecretary of Defense for Policy.
There was bipartisan opposition to his nomination.

He formally withdrew his nomination BUT now has been designated as the official Performing the Duties of the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense for Policy.

WTF??
How can this be done?

Because Republicans in the Senate won’t do anything about it.

For all intents and purposes the senate confirmation process no longer exists for executive branch appointees.

In the Trump world, like in the Twilight Zone and in Ivanka's entitled and privileged head anything's possible so long as you have the position of highest authority and a cast of millions of faithful cult followers to back you up.

Temporary appointment I assume. Defeats the whole purpose of advice and consent of the Senate.

With Ringmaster McConnell expertly commanding his elephants to do those circus tricks they do so well, advice and consent comes from him and him alone. No advice and consent needed from the herd.

Trump and McConnell have all bases covered for them to operate a fascist gov't within a so-called Republic.

There are many "Acting" officials in the admin now.

Yes, that should fucking terrify anyone that gives the smallest dick about this country. If it doesn't bother you, then you are a fucking quisling
You're going to have to explain to the Trumpettes who Quisling was.

well, it's been used a lot in the last several years, quite accurately, so I figured they got it by now. I recall that Letterman was maybe the most prominent person to use it publicly regarding the specific breed of Trump loyalists that crawled out of the muck starting in 2015 (iirc, Letterman was specifically referring to Mitch and the other enablers, more so than the muck people). ....but you're right, they are mostly incurious and probably just illiterate, so:

ATTENTION --- As long as Trump is in office this is no longer a Democracy! Some will argue it never has been a Democracy!!

It cuts both ways. An obstructionist Senate can hobble the functioning of the Executive branch, as we saw during the Obama years. Nobody has ever abused it quite like Trump. He politicizes everything. He wants Tata for all the wrong reasons-

He's Trump's kinda guy, you know?

Acting appointments are a strange corner of how things get done. These guys put their own slant on it while explaining the history & the mechanics quite well. Lengthy-
