controlling startup processes

i have several processes the load on startup that appear to be parts of programs, like there are a few roxio ones (roxwatch.exe), and something related to acronis true image (schedul2.exe), etc. but, i cannot find any place in these programs where i can turn off the startup options. where is the command for these startup processes in the registry? can i just delete the registry entries?

start > run > msconfig > services and startup tabs

Crap Cleaner has the ability to edit them as well.

im on win2000, it doesnt seem to have msconfig, or is it called something different?

LOL, I was gonna suggest the "msconfig" way, as well. Just be very careful what you mess with in the services. DONT touch anything that says Remote Procedure Call or RCP, lol, you might not like the result.

Ya, if you have Win2K, there is no msconfig but you can add it. Google for "msconfig" w/out the quotes and see what you find for a dnld. If you have an XP machine in the house, you can also copy the app to a diskette and then paste it in the right folder in W2K. Let me look into it for a second. Im trying to cook dinner for the family and help at the same time, lol.

well, i figured out that msconfig does not come with win2k, but you can download the XP version and it works with 2k. and yes, i googled all the processes before deleting them to see what they were.

OK, well if you DO have another XP machine in the house, msconfig is in C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries and I believe you copy/paste it to the C:\WINNT folder in W2K. Then just go to Start>Run. Type in msconfig and OK and should bring it up. If you DO NOT have an XP machine in the house, search for it on Google and see if you can find a dnld and try putting it in the same W2k folder I said.
