Controller or Hard Drive Went Dead

My K7N2-Delta ILSR motherboard seems to have finally gone over the edge. The raid controller has given me trouble in the last month or so. While adding a WD Raptor drive to the system I started getting lockups. Now my Maxtor is added to an array as a 0MB drive. It's seen as a 163928MB drive by the controller as normal, but when added to an array it makes the whole array 0MB.

Please tell me that my controller is dying an that my Maxtor drive is okay. Not backing up for years has put most of my important stuff at risk. If I had another computer to test the drive on I would. In the meantime I'm buying a new system altogether.

So I guess my questions are:

1. Has anyone else heard of a drive making an array 0MB?
2. Do you think my controller or my drive is failing?
3. If the drive is failing, would the freezer trick be my best bet for home data recovery?

If you have any questions or need more information please let me know...
