Just wondering why they don't exist?

I like to play with both KB/Mouse or a 360 controller, depending on my mood... but when online, you have to use a KB/Mouse or you get slaughtered. (Which I do use)

Sometimes I just like laying back with a controller.

Why do games like Black Ops, etc not have controller only multiplayer servers? No others out there like me?

That's like asking for low end PC only servers. The keyboard and mouse is the standard input controller on PC, you can limit yourself if you wish but I don't see why anyone would pay to setup and maintain a server that had such a limit.

ahh no.

There are lots of folks out there who game on PC using controllers.

This isn't going to be a Controller vs KB/Mouse flame war. I like both.
I also like both and also use a controller regularly. However, some games are just better suited for a controller, and some are suited for the kb/mouse combination. FPS games are better suited for the kb/mouse combo.

Can't you just get a server yourself and set this kind of option? I actually can see the point in having something like this.

Speaking only of the battlefield series, having owned several servers from bf2 through bfbc2, I cannot think of a way to actually enforce this.

Cant just setup a server - No game includes the option, simply because the number of people who would be interested in such a thing is tiny.

When you're dealing with online PC FPSes, the mouse/keyboard is a huge reason why people play on the PC to begin with. No company has any interest in making controller only FPSes for the PC because it's a tiny market, and one that's already served very well on the consoles.

I use a 360 controller wherever possible as well. I use a mouse and keyboard constantly in my day job so I avoid it in the evenings to prevent repetitive strain injuries. I don't really play multiplayer FPS though.

Yeah, guess I'm in a small minority.

I like to just lay back on the couch and play online, and controller just makes it easier.

Was wondering if such a thing exists, but doesn't sound like it.

Primarily it doesn't exist because of lack of demand, almost no PC gamers are using controllers for FPS games due to the mouse and keyboard being vastly superior.

However there are some real technical issues behind enforcing this client side, it would be very easy to plug in hardware that has faked drivers and allowed keyboard/mice players to join the server and all the controller users would be slaughtered and rage quit.

lmao, why would anyone want to do that? play a console if you want to play an fps with a controller.

i can see other games, like racing games using a controller on pc, but not fps.

Well either you set up your own server or you get a console.

You can't setup your own "controller only" server. People would still come in with KB/Mouse. Thats the issue.

I do have a console. I just like to use my PC as much as I can, and I like controllers.

I'm fine with using a KB/Mouse, Its just not as "comfy" at times.

I have to laugh at this place sometimes. I clearly know the KB/Mouse is better for FPS, and as stated, I would just like the option sometimes to use a controller against others with controllers. Nothing more.

Unfortunately, these "controller-only" servers probably don't exist for a couple reasons:

1) Most games don't include a server option for "only allow gamepad users." After all, this would be the only way to keep things balanced. You could simply state in the server name, "controllers only please!" but it wouldn't stop people from coming in with a keyboard and mouse.

2) There simply isn't enough interest or need for such a thing.

Basically everything that's already been said in this thread.

I understand how you feel, I prefer my 360 pad for a lot of PC games too. However I just don't see this happening. :\

except that it is gamepad vs KBM argument(debate wise).

you want to play casually/relaxed on couch with gamepad.
you want everyone else to be playing with a gamepad so that things will be even/fair/less difficult.

the implication being that the guy using KBM will have an advantage and therefore make your game experience harder/less enjoyable.

(not that the console shooter players arent as competitive as PC, players generally get agro whatever the platform.)

if you want a more relaxed online gaming experience then you need to look for different games. the idea that pc players will somehow settle down and not try so hard because they are saddled with using an inferior input device is silly.

Controllers for First person shooter games = retardedly hard.

Consol Controller:
Figher games (street fighter ect)
Platform games/action adventures (zelda ect)
raceing (mario kart)

Mouse+keyboard:
MMO's (the wsad, F1-9, 1-0 buttons ect)
RTS (mix of mouse precision, and shortcut keys)
First person shooters (mouse precision)

Most people with a PC buy a Playstation like controller, they can plug in for the games where its fitting.
Playing Street fighter with a keyboard is just..... too fail for words.
Same thing is true with playing First person shooters with a consol controller.

^ agree with this.

Dont like the competitive nature of First person shooter games, stick with single player mode and your controller.

Actually it works very well once you get used to it and some of the best PC SF4 players play on keyboard.

BS. He wants to play with other people who already use a gamepad, not force anyone to switch from KB+M.
the implication being that the guy using KBM will have an advantage and therefore make your game experience harder/less enjoyable.
And he is completely correct. Pad against KB+M is pointless whether you play casually or seriously.

What makes you think he wants other players to "settle down"? You can play hard with pads. It would be easy for devs to create a pad-only server option and perform some minimal verification, like checking for inputs which are impossible on pad.
