Controller mode setting for SSD hard drives

Is there any hard and fast rule for which controller / bios mode setting to use for SSD hard drives, assuming there there is only one SSD (and no other) hard drive in the system.

If your BIOS only shows IDE or RAID, I typically go with RAID but you don't have to configure any virtual disks (e.g. passthrough)
